A one-day seminar consisting of insightful talks, panel discussions and question and answer sessions, whereby industry experts, Shariah scholars and illustrious figures in the field Islamic finance take the dialogue on critical issues of Islamic finance forward.

Al Naqiy Islamic Solutions organizes path-breaking conferences and workshops to reignite the interest in understanding key Islamic concepts and injunctions on significant and contemporary issues of Islamic finance, especially riba. Through the Riba Symposium, Al Naqiy aims to fill the lacuna in the public fora of information and knowledge in the realm of halal financial practices. It seeks to foster a stronger and better understanding through illuminating the Islamic tradition of education, tolerance and introspection across time and background through points of commonality and respect. To help attain these ideals, the symposium will feature a wide range of voices from across the spheres of knowledge in the realm of Islamic finance.

The path of discovery and enlightenment of human mind and soul is illuminated in the theme of the Symposium: Reflect, Recount and Realign. It is the perversity of human nature that it does not stop seeking, does not stop learning and does not stop changing. As much as it may wish to resist change, the very essence of a being is linked to action, assessment and subsequent improvement. And this improvement cannot be actualized but by the process of seeking knowledge and reviewing one’s life in the mirror of that wisdom.

Through the aegis of this Symposium, al Naqiy invites you to empower yourself with knowledge and wisdom, where together we reflect on the direction of our lives in light of our choices in all spheres, to recount our steps, our day to day actions, our pursuit of acquiring wealth, prosperity and well-being, and through the guidance of the Almighty, realign our life towards His pleasure, which will lend nobility to our ambitions, permanence to our wealth, and add the true power of barakah to our lives, whereby we bless and multiply all that we have and will gain, in this life and the next.

OBJECTIVES

a) Facilitate deeper understanding of the prohibition of riba, its effects, concept, and types in the modern world.
b) Provide an open and healthy environment for the participants to ask, clarify, reflect and embrace the knowledge & advice on Islamic financial management in their lives.
c) Clarify misconceptions regarding the implementation of Islamic banking, capital market and wealth management operations and practices in Malaysia.
d) Strengthen the faith and reinstate their confidence in the just and universal commandments of Islam, easing their progress from the vicious to the virtuous.
e) Provide viable solutions towards riba-free practices and environment for the individual and society.
f) Raise awareness on Zakah, its importance and various edicts related to this central ordainment of Islam.

The session will touch on ways to strengthen iman and build strong fundamentals in belief system that will reflect one value and actions in an effort to fulfill all the commands and leave all the prohibitions.

Moment of Ignition
Topic : History of Money & Banking - How It All Began and How We Got Here
Speaker : Dr. Waleed Abdulhakeem
This session ignites the minds on a brief history of the creation of money, the first conventional bank and how the conventional system has evolved to the world financial system we have today.

Moment of Clarity
Topic : Islamic Bank & Conventional Bank: What's the Difference?
Speaker : Ustaz Mohd Nazri Chik.
This session is designed to attempt to shed light on the subject of Islamic muamalah system and to provide a good basis for better understanding of what such system entails. It hopes to clarify the difference between riba and trade / financing in Islamic banking transactions.

Topic : Accidental Riba and Ways To Purify Tainted Wealth
Speaker : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaharuddin Abdul Rahman
This session will elucidate riba, doubtful elements in daily transactions prevailing today and some practical examples of the issues that are frequently encountered by Muslim communities.

Bite Sized Bits : Zakah

This session intends to be a dawah session to remind the participants on the third pillar of Islam and the organiser plan to work with Pusat Pungutan Zakat Wilayah Persekutuan for this session.

Topic : Staying Ahead In Turbulent Waters
Speaker : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aznan Hasan
This session will irradiate the audience with deep explanation and clarification on many shariah issues facing Islamic banks and financial institution today. This session will end with the speaker discussing the current economic issues in Malaysia and its impact to its people

Moment of Awakening
Topic : Empires Fall : Lessons from the Ottomans
Speaker : Dr. Waleed Abdulhakeem
This session will walk participants through a brief history of the great of the Ottoman Empire and explore factors contributed to the Empire's decline and economic lessons behind it.
