Public Forum: Civil, Islamic or Socialist Law?

[Event has ended]

Malaysia, a multiracial country has adopted a legal system comprising of laws which have arisen from three significant periods in Malaysian history dating from the Malacca Sultanate, to the spread of Islam to Southeast Asia, and following the absorption into the indigenous culture of British colonial rule which introduced a constitutional government and the common law. Malaysia's unique legal system is designed to balance the delicate racial and religious needs of its heterogeneous people.

As part of the global wave of Islamization that has taken place since the 1970s, some factions in Malaysia have called for an expansion of the role of Islamic law in the Malaysian legal system, some have called for the federal government to revise federal law in order to make it more consistent with Islamic norms. This approach has had, at best, mixed reaction and success. With this, World Assembly of Muslim Youth brings to all a public forum to provide a clearer understanding of the different laws that could be adopted in Malaysia.

OBJECTIVES

To provide a platform for intellectual discourse regarding Civil, Islamic and Socialist laws for good governance.
To provide a platform for institutions, bodies, associations, political parties, and individuals to improve their understanding of Islamic law and continue to actively work on preserving the harmony of Malaysia's multi-racial society.
