Prof Dr Mohamed Hatta Shaharom

Born in Johor Bahru in 1952 CE/1371 AH, Prof Dr. Mohamed Hatta Shaharom studied at Sekolah Dato’ Jaafar, Johor Bahru, and the Malay College Kuala Kangsar and has a Diploma in Islamic Thought. He studied medicine at Egypt’s Cairo University, psychiatry at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and forensic psychiatry at Monash University, Australia. He was Editor, Malaysian Journal of Psychiatry, President, the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia and Pertubuhan Jamaah Islah Malaysia (Reform Society of Malaysia - JIM), and led MERCY Malaysia’s Afghanistan and Iran disaster relief missions. He was Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry and a Senate member of UKM, before becoming Senior Vice President (Academic) and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences, Malaysia. He is Fellow, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and Senior Fellow, Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists. Prof Hatta and his doctor wife has six children (three are married) and six grandchildren. His writings range from topics on psychiatry to socio-religious and humanitarian issues.
